Among other things, the recession is reducing the cost of rents across the city. This article says prices will continue to drop until there more jobs are available, and that could be a while. What does this mean for the city? If cheaper housing is available for urban professionals and artists in Manhattan, this could potentially slow the gentrification process in lower-income neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
